5 Popular Yeast Infection Home Remedies

Yeast Infection Home RemediesYeast infection home remedies are becoming increasingly popular as women turn away from the typical prescription treatments and look for something a little more effective.  Although medication prescribed by doctors works, it often leads to recurring infections, which is something no one wants to go through.  If you’re looking for a natural cure for yeast infections that works, you’re in the right place: here are five of the most commonly used yeast infection home remedies.

Yogurt
It would be a fairly safe guess to say that yogurt is the most popular of the yeast infection home remedies.  It’s easily available at any grocery store and is also inexpensive.  There are two ways to use yogurt to treat a yeast infection.  The first is simply to eat it.  This method can be done with any flavor or type of yogurt.  The second method involves soaking yogurt into a tampon and inserting it into the vagina.  For this method, you need to be a little more selective about the type of yogurt you use.  Plain, sugar-free yogurt with no fruit additives is the best bet.

Tea Tree Oil
Yeast infections are caused by a fungus, Candida.  Tea tree oil is effective in fighting yeast infections because it’s a natural antifungal.  You can use tea tree oil vaginally the same way you use yogurt.  Soak a few drops into a tampon and insert it into the vagina.  Applying this treatment morning and night for a few days typically clears up yeast infections.

Garlic
This may be smellier than some of the other yeast infection home remedies, but it’s just as effective.  Chop up a few cloves of garlic, wrap them in a cheesecloth, and insert this into the vagina.  The end of the cheesecloth should be left out for easy removal.  Twenty minutes is the recommended time for this method.

Honey
Not many people know about this cure, but those who do say it’s one of the most effective treatments.  It is messy, however.  To use honey to treat a yeast infection, you’ll have to sit over the toilet and generously apply honey to the affected area.  Sit with the honey on for about twenty minutes and follow it up with a warm bath.  This should be done twice a day, morning and night.

Vinegar
People have been using apple cider vinegar as a cure for many ailments for years, so it’s no surprise that it can also be used as a cure for yeast infections.  Apple cider vinegar has many antibacterial and antifungal properties that make it a better multi-purpose cure than regular white vinegar.  Soaking in a warm bath that contains a cup of apple cider vinegar for around twenty minutes should do the trick.
